Biden and the prince plan to meet in late June as part of a broader Gulf Cooperation Council summit.
A meeting between US President Joe Biden and the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will take place in July. On Saturday, June 4, CNN reports.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Biden and the crown prince were scheduled to meet in late June as part of a Gulf Cooperation Council summit currently being chaired by Saudi Arabia.
Biden is expected to travel to Germany and Spain for the G7 and NATO summits, respectively, at the end of June.
As mentioned, the administration has specified that two separate trips – one to Europe and one to the Middle East – will allow more time for planning and scheduling and agenda.
The face-to-face meeting with the prince will mark the first time Biden has had direct contact with the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia since taking office. So far Biden wanted to talk directly to King Salman, the prince’s father.
The publication states that the meeting will take place after months of diplomatic work by the Biden administration to restore US-Saudi relations.
It will be recalled that the US and EU are discussing the possibility of buying Russian oil at a price lower than the market price, rather than refusing to import it.
