The European Commission will propose extending the temporary protection of Ukrainians in the EU. European support for Ukraine will continue. Europeans have earmarked €12 billion for wages and pensions in 2023 to keep hospital schools and other services running. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated this on September 13 in her annual address to the European Parliament, Radio Liberty reports.
And through our asset offering, we are ramping up ammunition production to help meet Ukraine’s urgent needs (…) We will be with Ukraine every step of the way for as long as it takes,” she noted.
According to the official, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 4 million Ukrainian citizens have found refuge in European countries. They were provided with housing, medical care, a labor market, etc.
The directive itself on the temporary protection of refugees from Ukraine was activated in March 2022 immediately after the start of a full-scale war. The Ukrainians were granted asylum for a year, so the directive was extended until March 2024. The mechanism itself is designed until March 2025.
Let us remind you that the results of Info Sapiens surveys indicate that the number of adult men among Ukrainian refugees increased by 200 thousand between August 2022 and March 2023.
