We will have to borrow most of the necessary funds – almost 299 billion Hryvnia, predicts the Verkhovna Rada.
The Verkhovna Rada will soon consider the government’s proposed bill to increase defense spending in 2023 by nearly 303 billion hryvnias. This was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary budget committee, Roksolana Pidlasaya on Facebook on Tuesday, September 12.
According to the bill, it is planned to increase costs:
-
Ukrainian Armed Forces – by UAH 195.7 billion;
-
National Guard – by UAH 39.7 billion;
-
State Border Service – of UAH 20.4 billion;
-
costs for the purchase and modernization of military equipment – by UAH 13.2 billion;
-
Ministry of Strategic Industry for the production of weapons and ammunition – UAH 4.4 billion;
-
SBU – UAH 4.2 billion;
-
GUR MO – 2.5 billion UAH.
Pidlasaya believes that the increase in spending will be supported by the parliament, as the government and the Verkhovna Rada always respond quickly to requests from the military.
“Regarding coverage resources, we will need to borrow most of the necessary funds – almost 299 billion UAH, of which about 208 billion UAH in the domestic market, part of the funds will come from the excess realization of revenues that are not tax,” explained the representative of the people.
The bill also proposes to increase spending on supporting IDPs by UAH 16.5 billion by the end of 2023 and allocate UAH 1.2 billion to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Grant funds from the European Union in the amount of almost UAH 6 billion will be used for “rapid recovery” – the restoration of damaged and destroyed facilities.
We remind you that the annual defense expenditure of Ukraine today is about 2 trillion hryvnias. The government finances defense needs, and Western partners provide funds for everything else.
