According to journalist Mikhail Masliya, Tabachnik died after 20:00 on September 11 in Tel Aviv, in a hospital. He has been battling cancer for the past two years.
The native of Chernivtsi will be buried in Tel Aviv. That was his wish, on the land of his native people,” the journalist wrote.
Tabachnyk was elected to the Verkhovna Rada three times from the Party of Regions in 2006-2014.
Tabachnik’s death was also reported on Instagram by his friend, journalist Dmitry Gordon.
Yan (Yakov) Tabachnik was born in 1945 in Chernivtsi. People’s Artist of Ukraine since 1994.
Since 1976, he has released five giant discs on the all-Union company Melodiya. He has released 10 CDs, two of which he is the author of music and lyrics.
Tabachnik’s songs were taken into their repertoire by Joseph Kobzon, Vakhtang Kikabidze, Lyudmila Gurchenko, Valentina Tolkunova.
In 1999, Tabachnik went on a campaign tour for Ukrainian presidential candidate Leonid Kuchma to prisons and colonies. He was a people’s deputy of Ukraine of the 5th-7th convocations from the Party of Regions.
