The Ukrainian military has gained a foothold in Opytny and fighting is already underway in the populated area itself.
In a lightning operation, the defense forces took control of a part of Opytny in the Donetsk region, which is south of Avdeevka; the battle is underway in the city, the head of the military administration of the city of Avdeevka, Vitaly Barabash, said in a telethon.
“In general, the situation along the defense line around the city (Avdeevka) remains very tense. The enemy is pressing from the north of the city. From the south, in the area of Opytnyi we succeeded. And this, in my opinion, Very important. The direction south. Two days ago they fought a very strong activity in the north of the city. When they concentrated in the north of the city in their attack operations, the men (Defense Forces – ed.) carried out, in my opinion, a lightning-fast attack operation, and our men still occupied the Opytnyy part and entrenched themselves “And the battle was already taking place in populated area itself. We expect that in the near future the village of Opytnoye will be completely under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” said Barabash.
Let’s remember that earlier Russian troops tried to cordon off Avdeevka, because they could not take the city by frontal attacks.
