Estonian authorities intend to discuss trade restrictions with the governments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland.
The head of the government of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, proposed to introduce a joint trade embargo against Russia with the participation of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland. ERR reported this on September 8.
The publication states that every day shipments with goods not subject to sanctions, including electronics, equipment and food products, go from Estonia to the Russian Federation.
At the same time, the country’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Estonia’s decision alone will not significantly change the situation, but will be a blow for Estonian business. He added that trade restrictions should be discussed with the foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Finland.
Kallas said that neighboring countries have not yet supported Estonia’s proposal. According to him, the main state in this regard is Finland. The Prime Minister added that he had not yet contacted Finland’s new Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, but promised to do so.
