Bloomberg writes that this will be announced at the summit in India, which will take place on September 9-10.
The African Alliance consists of 55 states. It is currently an “invited international organization”, but once accepted into the G-20 it will have the same status as the EU.
This is how developed countries are trying to increase the involvement of African states in solving global problems such as climate change.
Earlier, Western media reported about the intentions of the EU, G20 and India countries to join the African Union. According to political analysts, Western bloc countries are thus trying to gain greater influence in the Global South, where Russia and China have recently strengthened their positions.
The G20 decision is part of a push to give African countries a stronger voice on global issues such as climate change and emerging market debt, especially as markets in the so-called Global South play a more prominent role in global affairs.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is hosting the G20 summit, has made it his priority to grant the African Union full membership. Italy’s Georgia Maloney was also among those who advocated for AU membership of the G20 at the last G7 meeting, held in Japan in mid-May.
