The court allowed a special investigation before the trial against former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in the case of the signing of agreements in Kharkiv in favor of Russia. This was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General on Friday, June 3.

Such court decision gives the prosecution the right to conduct an investigation prior to trial against the suspect in his absence (in absentia).

According to the investigation conducted by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation, Viktor Yanukovych, in violation of the requirements of the Constitution, on April 21, 2010 in Kharkov signed an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on behalf of the state, which was extended the stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine – in the Crimea and Sevastopol.

As a result of such actions, requirements were created for increasing the number of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, their re -equipment and modernization, and in the future – the invasion of Russia’s armed forces and their conquest. in the Crimea and Sevastopol.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, in connection with Yanukovych, in the procedure in absentia, a pre-trial investigation into criminal proceedings is already being conducted on the fact of the abduction of the former president of state power. in September-October 2010 as a result of the reinstatement of the Constitution of Ukraine on June 28, 1996 in an unconstitutional manner.

An absentee pre-trial investigation is also being conducted into criminal proceedings in the circumstances of Yanukovych’s organization of moving at least 20 people across the state border in February 2014 and inciting the escape of Department employees. State Security.

In all three criminal proceedings, the court authorized the arrest of the former president.

In another criminal trial in the Maidan cases, in November 2021, a special pre-trial investigation was concluded in relation to the former president and 9 senior officials, who on February 18-20, 2014 organized of strong opposition to protesters in central Kiev. Currently, participants in criminal proceedings continue to identify investigative materials prior to trial.

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ruled on the arrest in the absentia of former president Viktor Yanukovych in the case of signing agreements in Kharkiv. This was reported by the Office of the Attorney General on Monday, May 23.

Earlier it was reported that the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the activities of ex-premier Mykola Azarov in connection with the signing of agreements in Kharkiv. He is suspected of committing high treason through the prior conspiracy of a group of people.
