The attackers spent 60% of their time and resources building the first line of defense and only 20% each on the second and third lines, so things should move faster from there.
After weeks of efforts to clear mines, the Armed Forces of Ukraine broke through the first line of Russian defense near Zaporozhye. This was stated by the commander of the Tavria operational-strategic grouping of troops, Brigadier General Alexander Tarnavsky in an interview with the Observer, published on Saturday, September 2.
“Now we are between the first and second lines of defense, we are completing the destruction of enemy units that provide cover for the withdrawal of Russian troops behind the second line of defense,” said Tarnavsky.
He noted that the invaders spent 60% of their time and resources building the first line of defense and only 20% each on the second and third lines, because they did not expect Ukrainian troops to break through.
According to him, the Russian troops “just stood and waited for the Ukrainian army,” the shooting equipment with shells and drones, but now this obstacle was overcome, and the invaders were forced to make maneuvers, and the Ukrainians returned their tanks and other armored vehicles to the battlefield after demining.
“The enemy is taking reserves not only from Ukraine, but also from Russia. But soon the Russians will run out of all the best soldiers. This will give us an incentive to attack more and faster. We have everything ahead of us. When we started the counteroffensive, we spent more time than expected to clear the territories,” said Tarnavsky.
He also added that there is a huge difference between the first and second line of defense – the second line is poorly constructed, so the Armed Forces of Ukraine can use equipment.
According to Tarnavsky, now we need to focus and “bring the matter to the end.”
Recall that at the end of August, American General Mark Milley suggested that Ukrainian troops could break through the first line of defense of the Russian aggressors in the Zaporozhye region.
A few days later, it was reported that in the Kherson region, Ukrainian defenders forced ORDLO militants to retreat from their positions. At the same time, Russian paratroopers fled the battlefield.
