The death of PMC leader Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin became the most important event for the people of Russia in August. However, not everyone believed in his death. These are the results of a survey by the independent Levada Center.
It is noted that in second place is the war against Ukraine (in August – 9% of references, in July – 15%). It is followed by the BRICS summit (6%), Ukrainian attack on Russian territory (5%), weather disasters (4%), dollar growth, interest rates and prices (3%).
As for Prigozhin’s plane crash, a quarter of the respondents (26%) are inclined to the version of a tragic accident, and the fifth (20%) – to the version of revenge on Prigozhin by the authorities for in the coup attempt.

In August last year (compared to the June measurement), the proportion of those who approved of Prigozhin’s activities increased (from 34% to 39%). The share of those who disagree with his activities remained almost unchanged (39% and 37%, respectively).
The survey was conducted on August 24-30 through personal interviews with 1606 people.
As reported, Prigozhin’s death was officially confirmed in Russia.
Recall that on August 23, a plane with 10 people on board crashed in the Tver region of the Russian Federation, including Prigozhin at the command of PMC Wagner. They all died.
