Bloomberg writes about this, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry and PIK itself.
A week after Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death, a contractor affiliated with the Russian Defense Ministry is preparing to take over Wagner’s operations in the Central African Republic, speaking on condition of anonymity, the agency’s interlocutors said.
As Bloomberg notes, the transfer of a foreign network of mercenaries under the control of the military department will put an end to the scheme in which the Russian authorities formally removed responsibility for the activities of the PIK.
On Wednesday, an audio message appeared on mercenary-related channels in which a CPP spokesman advised the fighters to, among other things, “look for other ways to make money.” The authenticity of the recording to the Important Stories publication (recognized in Russia as a “foreign agent” and an undesirable organization) was confirmed by a PIK representative.
We are now forced to look for options for work in Africa and the Middle East. The situation there is also difficult. We have tough competition in the face of the Ministry of Defense and the Russian Guard, who are also trying to enter there with similar activities that we conducted, the message said.
