For Grant Shapps, this is the fifth ministerial post in the British government under three prime ministers.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed Grant Shapps as Defense Minister. This was reported by the press service of the head of the British government in Twitter on Thursday, August 31st.
“Grant Shapps has been appointed UK Defense Secretary,” the statement said.
The British media wrote that for Shapps this is the fifth position in the British government. Previously, he was Transport Minister under Boris Johnson, briefly served as Home Secretary under the premiership of Liz Truss, was Minister for Business, and then headed the Department of Energy under Rishi Sunak.
It will be remembered that on August 31, Ben Wallace resigned from the position of British Minister of Defense, which he held for four years – since 2019.
Wallace has previously said he wants to be the next NATO Secretary General after the resignation of Jens Stoltenberg. However, Stoltenberg’s mandate was extended by one year.
