The European Commission is working to increase the possibility of “solidarity corridors” until September 15, when restrictions on the export of Ukrainian grain to five countries should be lifted.
The European Commission plans to intensify the work of the joint Coordinating Group dealing with the export of Ukrainian food. Miriam Garcia Ferrer, EC spokeswoman for agriculture and trade, said this at a briefing in Brussels on August 29, Ukrinform reports.
“The group met yesterday to discuss again the possibilities for increasing the capacity of the “corridors of solidarity”, alternative routes and financial opportunities to improve transport connectivity. We will hold (such meetings – ed.) more often until September 15 to have a good result that will ensure the smooth operation of this system,” she stressed.
Ferrer recalled that the EU restrictions on the export of Ukrainian wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed to the five countries are temporary and valid until September 15.
The speaker emphasized the need to find constructive solutions and refrained from thinking about the possible actions of the European Union after the lifting of the ban, in particular, in the context of the intention of Poland and Hungary to introduce unilateral restrictions on agricultural exports to Ukraine.
It was previously reported that Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia want to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grains until the end of the year.
The Foreign Ministry called such actions “unacceptable” and stressed that they do not correspond to the spirit of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU and the principles of the Single Market.
