Hungary has abused the principle of unity that guides the European Union and is blackmailing the Commonwealth, the deputy chairman of the European Parliament said.
European Parliament Deputy President Katarina Barly has called for Hungary’s removal of the right to vote in the European Union. He announced this on Thursday, June 2, on the air of German television and radio station MDR, TASS reports.
According to him, the country uses the principle of EU unanimity for blackmail. Barley recalled that in negotiations on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, Hungary blocked its adoption for several weeks because of the oil embargo.

Barley stressed that the country’s voting rights could be suspended for violating the rule of law.
“Especially in Hungary, it is no longer possible to talk about democratic and legal relations,” the EP vice-president said.
He added that the unified agreement of all member states, necessary for making key decisions at EU level, “goes back to the time when the EU was made up of six countries, and is now no longer practical. “
The Vice-President of the European Parliament pointed out that it is now no longer possible to discuss any democratic and constitutional conditions in Hungary, where Prime Minister Viktor Orban has “completely taken the country into his own hands when one by one.”
As you know, the Hungarian delegation on Thursday again blocked the process of introducing the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia, demanding that Russian Patriarch Kirill, who is a supporter of Putin and the war in Ukraine, is not included in the new list of restrictions. The Hungarian side, in addition, added minor technical requirements in the context of an incomplete embargo on Russia’s oil.
Previously, Hungary requested and received an exception to the EU oil embargo against Russia.
Recall that Ukrtransnafta has signed a contract with the Hungarian company Mol for the supply of 35,000 tons of diesel fuel per month.
