The Turkish president plans to renew the grain deal that allows Ukraine to export grain to the Black Sea and from which Russia withdrew in July.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Russia next week and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a grain deal. Bloomberg reported this with reference to two Turkish officials on Monday, August 28.
Erdogan may leave for Russia on September 8 before heading to India to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi, sources said. The Turkish presidential administration declined to comment to Bloomberg.
The publication states that Erdogan wants to renew the grain agreement, which allows Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea and from which Russia withdrew in July. Since then, world wheat prices have been volatile, especially after the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine’s port infrastructure for agricultural exports.
Recall that now Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the meeting between Putin and Erdogan will take place soon, but did not specify when it might happen.
The media earlier reported that Erdogan will visit Russia to meet with Putin. This happened after the President of the Russian Federation himself changed his mind about going to Turkey.
