Mark Milli, head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said this in an interview with the Jordanian Al-Mamlaka TV channel, Reuters reports.
F-16. This is progress, indeed, he noted. – There is a training program, and they will probably receive the F-16 … in the near future.
Milli also raised the issue of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, noting that it is too early to talk about its failure.
According to Milli, the counter-offensive has faced significant Russian forces that have been preparing minefields, tank ditches and tank-type “dragon’s teeth” obstacles for many months “within the very complex set of defensive preparations through which the Ukrainians are passing.”
He noted that the offensive would be so heavy and slow, it was assumed a few months ago. Milli does not consider a direct victory for the Ukrainian military in the near future likely and does not rule out the possibility of a political solution to cessation of hostilities.
This is an offensive that has been going on for about eight weeks or so. It is very bloody, slow, with a lot of victims and very difficult. Therefore, the idea of a military expulsion of 200,000 or 300,000 Russian troops would be very complex and problematic, he stressed.
Another way out of this situation is through negotiations, and perhaps this will also happen, Milli added.
