The fire on the island of Tenerife destroyed 6.7% of the island’s surface and destroyed almost a third (27.6%) of the forests. It was reported on August 22 by the newspaper El País.
It was noted that the area of the affected territory reached 15,000 hectares, the fire spread over the territory of 12 municipalities.
Currently, the perimeter of the fire has reached 90 kilometers.
The head of the administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said that the fire is not yet fully under control, but “the worst is over” and that some of the evacuees on Tuesday will be able to return home.
On Sunday, August 20, Clavijo reported that the massive forest fires in Tenerife were the result of arson, with Spanish police looking for suspects.
It will be recalled that the fires in the national park in Tenerife broke out on the night of August 15. Local authorities evacuated several villages and blocked the road to the forest around the Teide volcano.
Later it was found that the fire was not controlled and its area was growing day by day.
