The war in Ukraine will not be won immediately after the APU receives Western aircraft, but it will be a significant boost, because the F-16s are able to provide what is most needed today – air superiority in the occupied territories. Yuriy Ignat, the speaker of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this on the air of the telethon on August 21.
According to him, now there may be about 8-9 Russian fighters in the occupied territories. These enemy planes drop aerial bombs and launch air-to-air missiles. But American fighters will prevent them from doing so.
Ignat noted that the number of Russian aircraft in the air may change, because Russia today has a huge aviation group. At the time of the full-scale invasion, there were 750 aircraft and helicopters around Ukraine.
There are many of them, but there are not so many in the airspace close to the front line. There is no need for this, namely, to raise all aircraft and strike. It’s just a question of how much they have to strike,” he said.
Recall, last week it became known that the United States of America approved the transfer of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine. The aircraft will be handed over after pilot training is completed. And on August 20, it became known that the Netherlands would provide Ukraine with 42 American fighters, and Denmark – 19.
