The fire has spread over an area of about 5,000 hectares along a 50-kilometer perimeter, but the fire is bypassing the main tourist areas.
Due to the spread of forest fires on the Spanish island of Tenerife, which is part of the Canary Islands, local authorities have decided to evacuate a total of 26,000 people from 11 cities. This was reported by Reuters.
It is known that the forest fire raging in the north of the island remains uncontained, but the fire is moving beyond the main tourist areas.
By mid-afternoon on August 19, the fire had spread to an area of approximately 5,000 hectares in a 50-kilometer perimeter.
“The Canary Islands’ emergency service said more than 26,000 people had been evacuated on Saturday afternoon, a sharp increase from 4,500 on Friday, according to preliminary estimates. Around 11 cities have been affected so far,” it said of the statement.
As the head of the region, Fernando Clavijo said, rising temperatures and rising winds make it difficult to put out the fire.
Remember that on the night of August 15, a fire broke out in the national park in Tenerife.
It was previously reported that the fire had covered 3,200 hectares – 1.6% of the island’s surface.
