The discussion about the possible status of Ukraine after the war with Russia is already underway, Stian Jenssen said.
Ukraine can become a member of NATO if it agrees to give up part of its territory in favor of Russia. This statement was made by the Chief of Staff of NATO Secretary General Stian Jensen, according to the Norwegian edition of Verdens Gang on Tuesday, August 15.
“I think the solution is that Ukraine can give up territory and get NATO membership instead… It’s important that we discuss how to overcome this,” Jenssen said.
At the same time, he recalled the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Ukraine itself should decide when and under what conditions it wants to negotiate.
Asked by the newspaper if NATO believes that Ukraine should give up territory in order to achieve peace with Russia and become a member of the Alliance in the future, Jenssen replied that discussions about a possible post-war status are already underway and others are raising the issue of ceding territory to Russia.
“I’m not saying it has to be. But it could be a possible solution,” he explained.
As you know, NATO officially puts two conditions for the entry of Ukraine: the first concerns the modernization of security institutions, and the second – the immediate end of the war with Russia.
