In addition to Operation Grif, a new campaign will operate in Poland – Rengav. Its main task is to create a reserve in case the situation in Belarus worsens.
Poland is deploying additional groups on the border with Belarus and continues to build a military presence there due to the deployment of Wagner PMC mercenaries on the territory of a neighboring state. The new task force Podlasie will work within the framework of the special operation Rengav, said Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
The essence of the operation
Note that the name of Operation Rengav is the word Wagner read backwards. The main purpose of Rengava is to train soldiers near the Belarusian border and build reserves in case the situation worsens, Blashchak explained.
Also, as part of the operation, a new military unit will be created in the city of Charna-Bialystokskaya, 30 kilometers from the Belarusian border. It will be a training center for the needs of the 1st Legion Infantry Division created.
“There is no doubt that the Polish border is under threat. We see constant pressure on the Polish border, the attempts of migrants to cross the border illegally, encouraged by the Belarusian regime. There is no doubt that the Belarusian regime is cooperating with the Kremlin. This action is directed against Poland to destroy our country. I am convinced that this action will not succeed because of the service of the Polish Army and everything related to the strengthening of the border with Belarus,” the head of the Ministry of Defense said, the Polish channel TVN 24 reports.
Blashchak recalled that under the leadership of the Border Service, Operation Grif was being carried out, the purpose of which was to close the border with Belarus.
“Up to four thousand soldiers of the Polish Army will take part in this operation, supporting the Border Guard, but I also decided to create a task force with the code name Rengav in the operation,” said the head of the Defense Ministry.
The nature of this military operation is educational and defensive in nature, Blaschak said.
“Remember this when we hear the Kremlin’s propaganda saying that the Polish Army is crowded on the border of Belarus. It is really gathering, but to deter the aggressor and strengthen the border and ensure security. This is how it is and will be, despite all this fake news, with all this disinformation campaign,” he added.
Podlasie group
Colonel Arkadiusz Mikołajczyk, commander of the new Podlasie Task Force, which will conduct Operation Rengav, said his subordinates will operate in an area 400 km wide and 150 km deep from the border.
“We will operate very often at night, we will have the best – in terms of training – units of the Polish Army with experience gained in many missions in Poland and abroad,” he said.
“I hope that the society will receive us with kindness and be satisfied that they can live in peace, and you can also have a very good company with our presence in this region,” added Nikolaychik.
Wagner’s spies
The Polish Internal Security Agency also detained two Russians who were distributing leaflets calling for them to join the Wagner PMC. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior and Administration of Poland Mariusz Kaminsky.
It should be noted that the Polish media recently reported that in Krakow and Warsaw, unknown people pasted leaflets with a call to join the Wagner group. The postcards contain a QR code with a link to a Russian-language website.
“The ABW (Internal Security Agency), together with the police, identified and detained two Russians who were distributing propaganda materials of the Wagner group in Krakow and Warsaw,” Kaminsky said.
He added that both Russians were charged with espionage, they were arrested.
