Swiss authorities rejected Copenhagen’s application for the supply of approximately 20 Piranha III armored vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Swiss government vetoed the request from Denmark to send Swiss armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, citing a policy of neutrality. Reuters reported this with reference to the SRF television company.
It was noted that the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland rejected Denmark’s application to supply Ukraine with approximately 20 Piranha III armored personnel carriers. At the same time, Bern supported EU sanctions against the Russian Federation for the invasion of Ukraine.
As you know, Switzerland requires countries buying its weapons to obtain permission to re-export.
Switzerland’s neutrality now faces its biggest test in decades as the country continues to debate how to interpret the policies that prevented Switzerland from the two world wars in the 20th century.
It will be recalled that in April, Switzerland banned Germany from transferring ammunition used in the Marder infantry fighting vehicle to Ukraine.
