The head of state noted that with NATO “there is no war,” then the Russian Federation will be able to “not be afraid of an attack on its territory.”
Ukraine’s entry into NATO is Russia’s salvation. Because its membership in the bloc is a kind of guarantee that Kyiv will never come to their territory in the future. This was said by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference with Latin American media on Tuesday, August 8.
“Where there is NATO, there is no war. And all the countries joined NATO because they are afraid that the Soviet Union will come back with legs, hands and temptations of Putin. NATO for Ukraine is not an offensive mission , we have never attacked anywhere. Everywhere , where we advance is our territory. We return it. We do not advance, it is Prigozhin in Russia that shows and understands. This is their internal policy, and Ukraine is fighting on the territory of Ukraine, we return our territory. The Russian Federation should be grateful if Ukraine is in NATO,” the head of state explained his opinion.
According to him, Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance is “security for Russia”, because it means that Ukraine will “never in the future come to their territory.”
Zelensky added that some NATO countries, especially the Baltic countries, would be very happy if Ukrainian soldiers were stationed on their territory and guarded their border after this war, in peacetime.
“Because everyone understands that we have a strong army and many soldiers,” the head of state summed up.
Recall that in early July, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the American leader Joe Biden to invite Ukraine to NATO today, even if it becomes a member of the Alliance, it can only do so after the war with Russia.
In this regard, Biden said that the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO can only be considered after the war.
