The European Commission will give an opinion on Ukraine’s application for EU membership on June 15. The situation with grant status is uncertain.
Almost all major EU member states, except Italy, oppose granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership. This was stated by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi following the summit of EU leaders, writes tgcom24.
“We are only for the status of an EU candidate for Kyiv. Almost all major countries object to the status of a candidate for Ukraine in the EU. I want to say everything except Italy,” he said.
According to Draghi, now the situation in granting status is uncertain.
“But it is necessary to think of a fast path for entering Ukraine. And it seems to me that the European Commission also agrees with this point of view,” said the Italian prime minister.
According to French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, the European Commission will give an opinion on Ukraine’s application for EU membership on 15 June.
According to him, France supports the accelerated procedure for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership.
During a visit to Kyiv, the convoy noted that the “proxy statuses” offered to Ukraine towards EU membership are not a substitute for this membership itself.
