A modern network of high-speed railways with a length of approximately 2,000 kilometers will connect the country’s 60 cities.
Germany’s Siemens Mobility, a subsidiary of the Siemens conglomerate, has signed a contract with the Egyptian government to build a 2,000-kilometer high-speed rail network. On the night of Saturday, May 28, he announced that he would deliver 41 high-speed trains, 94 regional trains and 41 freight locomotives to this country, DW reports.
The contract also provides for the construction of eight railway stations and their maintenance for 15 years.
“Thanks to our latest technologies developed for rolling stock, signaling and maintenance, Egypt will have the sixth largest and most advanced high-speed rail network in the world,” said Roland Busch, CEO of the conglomerate Siemens AG, at the contract signing ceremony.
Siemens Mobility is working on this mega project with Egyptian construction companies Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors. Siemens ’subsidiary stake in the project is 8.1 billion euros, which includes a preliminary contract of 2.7 billion euros for the first line, signed in 2021.
A modern network of high-speed railways with a length of approximately 2,000 kilometers will connect the country’s 60 cities. Trains can move on this line at speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour. According to Siemens Mobility, approximately 90 percent of Egypt’s population will be able to use the new rail network. The new train network will be fully electrified, which will lower CO2 emissions by up to 70 percent compared to current bus or road transport, the company said.
It will be recalled that earlier a modern traffic control system was launched on the only Kyiv-Borispol highway in the country. Information boards display various information about road and weather conditions.
