Ukraine will receive from Lithuania two launch systems of the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system. This was announced by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda in Twitter on Wednesday, June 28th.
“Lithuania acquired two NASAMS launchers, which will be transferred to Ukraine. Air defense is key to the Ukrainian fight against the aggressor. I look forward to new collective decisions to support Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Together for victory! ” the sudden visit of Nauseda.
NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is a mobile anti-aircraft missile system designed to engage maneuverable aerodynamic targets at low and medium altitudes. The battery includes a radar station, a towed launcher with six containers for AMRAAM missiles with a range of up to 40 km and a command and control post. The complex was developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace in collaboration with the American company Raytheon.
Recall that NASAMS complexes have been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine for more than six months. During this period, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners destroyed more than a hundred Russian missiles and drones. In some attacks on Russia, NASAMS shows efficiency at the level of 100%.
In May, the United States agreed to sell the NASAMS air defense system and related equipment to Ukraine for $285 million.
