NATO’s response to threatening actions in Belarus should be more proactive, the Polish president believes.
Transfer of a private Russian military company Wagner and its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in Belarus is a “very negative sign.” This was said by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, reports Ukrinform.
“We see what is happening in the East. There is an actual redeployment of Russian troops by the group. Wagner in Belarus with its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. These are negative signals for us, which we want to convey to our allies,” he said.
The President of Poland intends to discuss the situation in more detail at a meeting in The Hague with the leaders of several Western countries and the Secretary General of NATO. According to Duda, the reaction of the Alliance to threatening actions across the eastern border should be more prompt, so that the transfer of NATO battalion groups to the eastern side will be faster.
It will be recalled that on June 23, the leader of the PMC Wagner announced a demarche against Russia’s military leadership, including against Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. On June 24, Prigogine sent columns of “Wagnerites” to Moscow.
The formal leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, spoke with Prigozhin, after which he announced that the group’s fighters had returned to field camps. On June 27, Lukashenka confirmed Prigozhin’s arrival in Belarus.
