The Russian president became “like a different person” after the Wagner PMC launched an armed campaign against Moscow.
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that Russian President Vladimir Putin became “significantly weakened” after the Wagner rebellion. He said this on Monday, June 26, on the Fox & Friends program.
“Whatever happened there, Putin is weaker. And Putin looks like a different person. But I always thought Putin looked like a mafia boss, and you see that now,” McCarthy said.
“Putin will never agree [Евгению] Prigogine to go that far or continue. I mean Prigozhin, and it’s no secret, publicly criticized Putin, criticized the military,” McCarthy added.
“Remember what he gave just a few days ago: (reasons – ed.) the invasion of Ukraine was a lie. He lied to the people. And look how the people rose up and supported Prigozhin. And the ability he can get so close to Moscow if he is not neutralized in the air force, it should be afraid of Putin,” said Speaker McCarthy.
He also mentioned that Russia is short on military supplies and said current events in Russia are a good reason for Chinese President Xi Jinping to stop any support for Moscow.
“Chinese President Xi should withdraw any support for Russia. That should be a clear signal for him as well,” the spokesman said, adding that world leaders should put pressure on President Xi.
He noted Putin’s personal vulnerability after the coup, saying he “isolated himself” and was now “slow to make decisions. ‘He’s not just the way you see him,'” the politician added.
Recall that on June 24, Putin promised that measures against the rebels “will be tough.”
And in a televised speech on June 26, Putin said that most of the PMC Wagner militants were “patriots of the motherland”, they were used “in the dark.” The Kremlin leader offered the “Wagnerites” to sign a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry and other security services, to return home or go to Belarus.
