This was announced on June 26 by the speaker of the Joint Press Center of the Tauride Defense Forces Valery Shershen.
We are talking, in particular, about the successful offensive operations of the Tavria grouping in the Melitopol direction. At present, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are consolidating themselves at the achieved levels. Aerial reconnaissance of the area, demining is carried out, fire damage is inflicted, artillery is working on the identified enemy targets and measures are being taken for counter-battery combat.
“Rakurs” wrote that the Defense Forces of Ukraine took control of the village of Rivnopol, Velikonovoselovskiy district, Donetsk region, occupied by Rashists.
Meanwhile, in the administration of US President Joseph Biden, they unofficially say that the Ukrainian counteroffensive began slowly and its results in the first few weeks are forced to “sober up”, but they are in no hurry to draw conclusions, writes NYT.
The publication explains that after three weeks of counter-offensive, the Ukrainian army is facing a number of problems that complicate its plans, in particular, a strip of minefields and terrain features where open fields do not provide cover.
Ukraine’s success now depends on how many tanks, armored vehicles and soldiers it can save before it reaches the main line of defense.
According to the NYT, all the obstacles turned the early stages of the counter-offensive into a slow and bloody red tape, limiting Ukrainian forces to about 6.44 km of reclaimed territory. That’s less than half the distance Ukraine needs to travel to get to Russia’s main defense positions.
According to the publication, during the winter, Ukraine and the Western allies prepared and equipped about 40,000 soldiers for the offensive.
In March, the US overturned 113 Bradley combat vehicles. At least 17 of them – more than 15% – were damaged or destroyed in the fighting, the official said in a NYT commentary.
