Denmark will retire all F-16 fighter jets by 2025. This is two years ahead of schedule.
Denmark has started training Ukrainian pilots in F-16 fighters, and also plans to replace this type of aircraft with F-35s earlier than expected. Danish Acting Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen said this, AP reports on Monday, June 26.
Thus, Poulsen noted that his country, which is a member of NATO, “has taken a step to start training and improve the skills of Ukrainian pilots.”
“We will also consider whether it is worth making specific donations to Ukraine of Danish F-16 fighter jets and how much they should have,” he said.
According to him, the Ukrainians must undergo six to eight months of training before the possible transfer of Danish F-16 aircraft becomes a reality.
In addition, he also said that Denmark will retire the F-16 aircraft from service in 2025. This is two years ahead of schedule. In total, there are 43 fighters of this type in the country, of which about 30 are currently in use. Denmark previously ordered 27 F-35A fighter jets to replace the more than 40-year-old F-16. The transition to the F-35 will take place from the end of 2023 to the end of 2025.
Earlier it became known that the United States received a request from Denmark to train the Ukrainians on the F-16 and began to consider it.
And Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov named the date when Ukraine will receive the F-16.
