The convict was sentenced to five years in prison and confiscated all property except housing.
Five years in prison for high treason (Part 1, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) was received by a journalist from the Khmelnitsky region. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OGP) on Friday, June 23.
The court’s decision provides not only imprisonment for the attacker, but also the confiscation of all property, except housing.
The man is one of the pro-Russian experts and political observers who actively cooperate with the now sanctioned Ukrainian media outlets owned by the leader of the banned political party Opposition Platform for Life.
The man worked as a freelance correspondent. He is also a writer for Russia’s state-owned propaganda news agency.
Since 2016, the attacker has been directly involved in the “promotion” of media images of Kremlin henchmen, helping them promote malicious narratives in the information space, publicly supporting seizures and actions of militants in Donbass.
Before distributing his fake materials, the journalist first contacted Russian representatives.
The convicted person is in custody until the court’s verdict.
Earlier, the SBU exposed the head of the Poltava District Court, who was suspected of collaborating with the Russian special services.
