Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley, noted the courage of the people of Ukraine during his speech at a joint press conference with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on the results of the 13th meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group with defense ministers of more than 50 countries, which took place in Brussels on June 15-16.

Thank you for the incredible courage of the Ukrainian people. The brave Ukrainian people continue to demonstrate their spirit of resilience by constantly fighting for the return of their Motherland from Russian occupation. Every day, Ukrainians fight not just with steel and weapons, but with the iron will of their spirit. Today we stand here not just as a group of nations, but as a united front for values that are far more important than ourselves. We stand for the basic principles of national sovereignty and freedom, principles that Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine clearly undermines,” Milli emphasized, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports on Facebook.
According to him, the international community for 16 months has demonstrated unwavering devotion to the ideals of sovereignty and self-determination. The American general also thanked the head of the Pentagon for his firm leadership in building a global coalition in support of Ukraine. In addition, Milli noted General Valery Zaluzhny and his representative, General Moysyuk, for their “uncompromising determination and decisiveness in the face of enormous difficulties.”
A war of Putin’s choice is not just a violation against Ukraine, it is literally a frontal attack on the very international order that guarantees peace, prosperity and freedom to all nations. The brave Ukrainian people continue to demonstrate their spirit of resilience by constantly fighting for the return of their Motherland from Russian occupation. Every day, Ukrainians fight not just with steel and weapons, but with the iron will of their spirit. I can tell you that every day Ukrainians demonstrate the courage and perseverance required to methodically reclaim their territory,” Milli said.
He recalled that war represents not only dynamics, the competition of freedoms, but also uncertainty, violence and high costs.
The will of the Ukrainian people will continue to resonate far beyond its borders. In fact, it will reverberate around the globe. Their actions echo the voices of all people who value freedom and the right to determine their own destiny against tyranny. Our assistance to Ukraine supports their cause to remain free and independent. It symbolizes our commitment to what binds us as nations, operating within a rules-based international order. We provide and will continue to provide extensive support, ranging from the provision of sophisticated combined arms and ending with intelligence data and ending with the training of Ukrainian forces, the US Army General said.
Thanks to a global effort, more than 6,000 Ukrainians are being trained in 40 different locations – 65 courses in 33 countries on three continents. Since the beginning of the war, the United States has taught more than 11,000 soldiers in combined arms maneuver and staff training. US training efforts have created agile battalions, thousands of operators now fighting in these vehicles alongside their general staffs.
Recall that last week the United States provided another $2 billion assistance package under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. This package provides critical capabilities including Patriot ammunition, HAWK air defense systems, artillery rocket munitions, maintenance and support, and more.
We see how Ukrainian troops demonstrate exceptional skill in managing complex systems such as Patriot, armored vehicles and HIMARS. We see how the Ukrainians effectively use anti-tank weapons, modern ammunition and sophisticated air defense systems. Our commitment to Ukraine goes far beyond the here and now. It is a promise that upholds the international order so that every nation, large or small, can live in peace, enjoying its legitimate sovereignty, without fear of unprovoked aggression, Milley summed up.
He stressed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes.
