President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke on the phone with World Bank President Ajay Banga. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian leader on Monday, June 19.
Zelensky was noted to have congratulated Banga on his election to the post and thanked the World Bank for its support from the first days of Russia’s all-out invasion.
They discussed the further development of cooperation, in particular, the mobilization of international support for Ukraine.
Zelensky noted the quick reaction of the World Bank to the collapse of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station by Russian aggressors, as well as cooperation with Ukraine to assess the damage caused by this disaster.
“The head of state invited the World Bank to continue the work of the representative office in our country and expressed interest in cooperation during the post-war transformation of Ukraine, in particular, in overcoming corruption and reducing the share of cash in the economy of Ukraine. ,” the message said.
Earlier on Monday, it became known that Ukraine received a 63 million euro loan from the World Bank. This money will be used to partially restore the state budget for the salaries of government employees and teachers.
The World Bank has also reportedly worsened the forecast for the Ukrainian economy.
