Washington does not see Russia preparing to use nuclear weapons, the US Secretary of State said.
The United States of America sees no sign that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. This was said by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken against the backdrop of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement about the transfer of nuclear weapons to Belarus, Bloomberg wrote.
According to him, Washington also sees no need to change its defensive position.
“We have no reason to adjust our own nuclear posture. We see no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons,” Blinken said.
The diplomat added that the US remains committed to the idea of ”defending every inch of NATO territory.”
“And for Belarus itself, this is another example of how Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko made an irresponsible, provocative choice to surrender control of Belarusian sovereignty against the will of the Belarusian people,” Blinken said.
It will be remembered that the other day Lukashenko said that Belarus has already received tactical nuclear weapons from Russia. It is still being delivered.
In March, Putin announced an agreement with Lukashenka on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus. Minsk was given the Iskander missile system, which can be a carrier of tactical nuclear weapons. Some Belarusian aircraft have also been converted to use nuclear weapons.
At the end of May, the defense ministers of Russia and Belarus signed documents on the deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.
