The Yagupov family from the Zaporozhye region. Arthur worked all his life in the State Emergency Service – he guarded the Zaporizhzhya NPP, Elena – in the civil service.
In 2020, the man decided to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he ended up in the 22nd motorized infantry battalion of the 92nd OMB named after. Ivan Sirko. Already on the second day of the great war, the town where the family lived was occupied. The man at that time held the defense in Tsirkuny, Kharkiv region, the children are already adults and live in different cities of Ukraine, and his wife could not even think that fate had prepared a big test.
Elena was under occupation – the Russians occupied their town the very next day.
On October 6, 2022, they came to the woman. She was told that a neighbor wrote a statement that Elena’s husband serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and she may have a weapon.
The woman was taken to the police and interrogated for two days: they beat her, put a bag over her head, wrapped her hands and around her neck with tape. They beat me on the back of the head with a bottle of water until it bled.
Among the interrogators were Kadyrovtsy, DNRovtsy and locals. They were interested in the whereabouts of the man, as well as people with a pro-Ukrainian position among their acquaintances.
Without knowing anything, I was sent to prison. There she sat in a cell with women who had two or three murders. I didn’t have my own bunks, so I slept on the floor in winter. Later they moved to another place. They dug trenches there. There was no talk of normal food, a soul or a doctor, ”the brigade page quotes Elena.
The woman describes what she experienced as hell. Finally, one of the prisoners asked a soldier for a telephone number and called a relative.
Then everything got off the ground. A relative made hundreds of calls all over the place, knocked on all possible and possible doors to release us, and here I am at home,” says Elena.
She met Arthur for the first time since the start of the Great War.
Both of them have a long recovery ahead of them. Over the past year, Artur’s chronic illnesses worsened and he underwent surgery on his leg. Elena returned from captivity with numerous injuries that need to be examined.
But first, Arthur invited her to get married.
