From a military point of view, Ukraine’s entry into NATO will also be beneficial to the Alliance, Polish representatives believe.
Poland’s Sejm (lower house of parliament) adopted a resolution supporting Ukraine’s membership in NATO. About that said in a Diet message on Twitter on Friday, June 16.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a resolution on Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Colleagues and allies of Poland for their continued support in Ukraine.
The Telegram channel of the Verkhovna Rada contains the main provisions of the resolution:
-
Today, Ukraine defends not only its state, but also common values such as democracy and order based on international law.
-
From a military perspective, Ukraine’s accession to NATO will also be beneficial for the Alliance.
-
The upcoming summit in Vilnius is critical to NATO-Ukraine relations and should be the venue for debate on their future. The procedure for inviting Finland and Sweden to the Alliance is also applicable to Ukraine.
-
The Polish Sejm will support efforts to strengthen political and practical cooperation between the Alliance and Ukraine and build consensus on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Remember, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Alliance allies will not discuss an invitation for Ukraine during the summit in Vilnius in July.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Eastern European countries are pushing for concrete steps toward Ukraine’s membership in NATO, including a potential commitment to the timing of its entry.
