This is his third visit to ZNPP since September 2022. IAEA Director General Grossi said after his visit to the Zaporozhye NPP that the agency will monitor how the power plant will replenish water supplies in the cooling rate, which is necessary for the further safe operation of the ZNPP.
With the water here, the station might be safe for a while. The station will work to replenish water supplies so that safety features can continue to operate as normal. So, of course, we will follow this process very carefully,” the head of the IAEA said.
The decrease in the water level needed to cool the nuclear power plant was one of the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP. According to Grossi, the level of water now in the pond allows the station “to be safe for some time.”
Grossi also stated that there is enough water in the ZNPP cooling pond. However, he warned of the possibility of a “major accident”.
