US President Joe Biden has approved the elimination of duties on steel imports from Ukraine. This was announced on Saturday, May 28, by the White House press service.

“In light of discussions on security issues and the significant disruption in Ukraine’s ability to produce steel, I have concluded that the current situation in Ukraine is a special case. A period of one year,” Biden said in a statement.
So, within the next year, the 25% duty on Ukrainian steel, introduced in 2018 under the Donald Trump administration, will be eliminated.
Recall that the corresponding decision was announced in early May in the US Department of Commerce. They noted that they will cancel 232 customs tariffs for the import of Ukrainian steel for a year to support the country’s metallurgical industry.
It was also reported that Metinvest, the largest metallurgical company in Ukraine, resumed the work of the Zaporizhstal steel plant, and also began employing workers from Mariupol and Avdiivka at plants in Zaporozhye, Kamensky and Krivoy Rog, which were forced leave their towns. .
