Due to the illegal actions of customs officials, the budget did not receive UAH 4 million, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicion of abuse of official position to three state inspectors of the Mukachevo customs post in Transcarpathia: officials organized a smuggling scheme for the import of goods in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of GBR.
In April last year, officials reported four truckloads of goods from China without paying customs duties.
“The reason is alleged changes in the law during martial law, according to which goods imported into Ukraine after April 1, 2022, are subject to customs clearance free of charge. However, such established by SBI employees, in fact, these goods were imported into the state territory in February-March 2022, which was confirmed by records in the databases of the customs authorities, and then the officials of customs, in violation of the law, allowed traders to withdraw the submitted customs declarations and declare the goods in “re-export” mode, then re-imported into the country, but already in a preferential mode,” said the statement.
The State Bureau of Investigation reported that due to such actions of officials, the budget did not receive UAH 4 million.
Those found guilty face up to six years in prison.
The investigation is ongoing, the involvement of other customs officials in the shadow scheme is being examined, the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation reported.
It was previously reported that the head of the Odessa customs department was exposed for a bribe.
