Recently, there have been several incidents between the US military and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) where the Chinese military has carried out dangerous and aggressive maneuvers near US counterparts.
Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu, in his speech in Singapore at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue Conference, said that US defense forces and their allies should withdraw from the South China Sea region and adjacent territory and do not provoke the PRC. On Tuesday, June 6 writes The Guardian.
According to him, the US and allied navies are showing “dangerous and unprofessional behavior at sea and in the air and not minding their own business” while in waters near China.
He agreed that incidents between the Chinese navy and military from foreign ships have become more frequent and stressed that they have occurred in waters close to China.
Li Shangfu also clarified that China’s strong reaction will continue if foreign warships are in the waters of the South China Sea and neighboring territories.
“When friends come to us, we greet them with very good wine. When jackals or wolves come, we greet them with shotguns,” said the Chinese defense minister.
The minister added that China remains committed to the path of peaceful development, but will not hesitate to protect its “legitimate rights and interests, not to mention sacrificing the country’s core interests.”
US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns secretly visited China last month to “unfreeze” relations between the states.
Recall, on the eve it was learned that China rejected the US request for a meeting between the heads of the defense departments of the two countries, Lloyd Austin and Li Shangfu, at the annual security forum in Singapore.
