It will take time to train the pilots. Ukraine will be ready to field F-16s in the fall or winter.
During this summer’s counter-offensive, Ukraine will not use F-16 fighter jets, but will bring all weapons on the ground. Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov stated this in an interview with NHK.
When asked about the F-16 fighters, which Ukraine has long sought to acquire, the head of the Defense Ministry replied that they will not change the situation this summer.
Some Western countries are training or have offered to train Ukrainian pilots to pilot these fighters.
Reznikov noted that it will take time to train Ukrainian pilots, and Ukraine also needs to agree with partners on providing engineers and technical personnel who will be able to maintain and repair aircraft.
According to him, Ukraine will be ready to deploy F-16s in autumn or winter.
It was previously reported that eight countries are already part of the so-called fighter coalition, and their number may increase.
