The Chinese ship almost collided with the US destroyer Chung-Hoon. The incident occurred on June 3 during a joint US-Canadian exercise, when the DDG 93 destroyer, along with the Canadian frigate HMCS Montreal, made a planned passage through the Taiwan Strait in waters where freedom of navigation operates. The exercises were in line with international law. It is reported by CNN.
At this time, the Chinese Luyanh III approached a dangerous distance from the American destroyer, which created the threat of a collision. The distance between the ships then was only 137 m.
Subsequently, the PRC ship repeated a dangerous maneuver – it crossed the course of the destroyer from the starboard side at a distance of 1,828 m.
Beijing and Washington accused each other of provocations. In particular, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shanfu said that the United States allegedly wanted to destabilize the Indian-Pacific region.
They are not here for peaceful passage, they are here for provocation,” Li Shanfu said.
Recall that in March, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, at the annual meeting of parliament, revealed the topic of readiness for war in four speeches, in one of which he ordered his generals to “fight boldly.”
