Oleksiy Neizhpapa said that the corps was created taking into account the further advance of the Ukrainian military after the capture of the bridgeheads.
The Marine Corps created in Ukraine will engage in complex amphibious assault operations. This is what Commander of the Naval Forces Aleksey Neizhpapa said, the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on its Facebook page on Thursday, June 1.
He emphasized that Ukraine is a maritime state, because the country has a very long coastline – more than 2,700 km, of which 1,700 km is a sea border. Because of this, the entire coastline, including rivers, estuaries, bays, harbors, needs protection, which is what mariners do.
The Navy commander noted that the main tasks of the marines are the protection of sea bases and ports, as well as the capture of bridges held by the enemy. Prior to the capture of the bridgehead, an amphibious naval operation must be conducted. He added that this is a very complicated type of operation, which is carried out even before a Marine sets foot on the beach.
Neizhpapa said that the Marine Corps is armed with floating armored vehicles, and the means of delivery of this equipment is the naval personnel.
He explained that the corps was created because, after occupying the bridge, further development would require a certain freedom of control and decision-making.
The Navy commander noted that the number of Marine Corps personnel will increase by creating new brigades and other units – artillery, support, support. These plans are being implemented now, because there is no time to wait for the end of the war.
Recall that the Ministry of Defense announced the formation of a naval coalition. Western partners are helping Ukraine rebuild its navy.
It will be recalled that in October 2022, a new Ukrainian corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa was launched in Turkey.
