Polish road workers must now replace 26 signs, of which 14 will be completely replaced.
Poland replaces road signs with the inscription Kaliningrad with new ones – Krulevets. Gazeta reported this on Thursday, June 1.
The media reports that the replacement work is being carried out in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, which borders the Kaliningrad Region.
The General Directorate of National Roads and Highways reports that road workers need to replace 26 signs. In particular, 14 information tables will be completely replaced, and to save money, the name of Kaliningrad will be pasted on a sticker with the inscription Krulevets on 12.
The Commission for the Standardization of Geographical Names outside Poland decided to change the name of Kaliningrad to Krulevets, and the Kaliningrad region to Krulevetskaya on May 9.
Kaliningrad (historical name Koenigsberg) is the former capital of East Prussia, which was annexed by the USSR.
Note that the attack on the then German city by Soviet troops during the East Prussian operation began on April 6, 1945.
Thus, of the 370,000 German residents who lived here before the war, no more than 20,000 people remained in the city.
Despite several attempts to adapt the local population, the Soviet authorities then decided to deport the German population to Germany. This plan was carried out until 1947. Only a few specialists helped to continue the work of enterprises in 1949. However, they were not allowed to obtain Soviet citizenship – they were exiled to Germany.
Instead of Germans, Soviet citizens were settled in the city.
As already reported, in Poland they officially approved and changed the names of the city of Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. The changes began on May 9. Now the city is called Krulevets, and the region is called Krulevetska.
The spokesman of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that the renaming of Kaliningrad by the Polish authorities is no longer “Russophobia, but a process bordering on madness.”
