In Canada, warnings about the dangers of smoking will be printed on every single cigarette.
This was announced by the government of the country. Canada will be the first country in the world to do so.
The new rules are part of the Government of Canada’s ongoing efforts to help smokers quit, protect youth and non-users from nicotine addiction, and further reduce the appeal of tobacco. Labeling individual cigarettes will not completely avoid health warnings.
The new rules will come into force on August 1, 2023 and will be introduced in stages: by the end of April 2024, new warnings about the dangers of smoking will appear on tobacco products, by July warnings will be printed on oversized cigarettes, and by April 2025 on regular cigarettes.
CNN gives examples of inscriptions on cigarettes: “Tobacco smoke harms children”, “Cigarettes cause cancer”, “Poison in every puff”.
