The German government plans to give Ukraine a defense aid package, which will include a large number of armored vehicles. Information about the weapons and equipment planned for transfer is published on the official page of the German government website.
According to an update of the list of planned military assistance from Germany, dozens of armored vehicles are to be delivered to Ukraine, namely 64 Bandvagn 206 (BV206) tracked all-terrain vehicles and 66 armored personnel carriers of an unnamed model, presumably the Fuchs 1 armored personnel carrier.
Bandvagn 206 (BV206) is a Swedish two-link tracked all-terrain vehicle developed by Haeglunds, now part of BAE Systems. The armored personnel carrier has good maneuverability in difficult terrain.
The Bandvagn 206S is an armored version of the Bv 206 and is in service with Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Armored vehicles of this type were transferred to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
The all-terrain vehicle has been designed to operate in arctic, desert or jungle environments. It can carry a driver and 11 fully equipped fighters. Three of them are located in the front cabin and eight in the back.
“Military” explains that this armored vehicle provides protection from small arms fire and small artillery debris. For self-defense, the armored personnel carrier is equipped with a ring mount for one 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun.
Fuchs is a German wheeled armored personnel carrier developed by Daimler-Benz, currently manufactured by Rheinmetall. Since 1980, 1236 Fuchs 1 units have been produced, mainly for the German army.
The welded hull of the vehicle made of steel armor plates provides protection against small arms and fragments of artillery shells. The exit from the troop compartment for 10 people is through a door in the rear of the vehicle.
An armored personnel carrier with a 6 × 6 wheel arrangement received an OM 402 diesel engine with an HP 320 power, located in the engine compartment in the middle part of the hull.
The machine has good buoyancy and is able to force water obstacles by swimming with the help of two propellers.
Recall, on May 31, the United States announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine for $300 million. It includes additional ammunition for Patriot air defense systems, AIM-7 missiles for air defense, Avenger air defense systems, Stinger anti-aircraft systems, additional ammunition for HIMARS.
