Janusz Wojciechowski considers it appropriate to limit the import of Ukrainian products to the EU at least until October.
EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski proposes to extend the ban on the export of wheat, barley, rapeseed and sunflower seeds of Ukrainian origin to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria until the end of October. He said this at a press conference in Brussels on May 30, Interfax reports.
“Today, during the meeting of the Council (on Agriculture and Fisheries), the Ukrainian Minister Mykola Solsky called on the Member States not to continue these measures … I presented the position that we have to continue – preferably until the end of the year, but at least until the end of October this year,” he said.
Voitshekhovsky pointed out that the European Commission has not yet made a decision to extend special measures for Ukrainian imports, and the stated position is his personal view on solving the problem.
At the same time, he emphasized that in parallel, the EC is discussing the functioning of the solidarity corridors, in particular, in Romania. It is about using the capabilities of the Danube River and deepening the canal so that large ships can follow it.
It was previously reported that Hungary has applied to the EU with a request to extend restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grains and oilseeds for five Eastern European countries until the end of 2023.
Remember, on May 2, the European Commission banned the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds of Ukrainian origin in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia for the period until June 5, 2023.
