11 Italian and 19 Hungarian soldiers from the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) international peacekeeping mission were injured in northern Kosovo while containing violent demonstrations. KFOR indicate that three Hungarian soldiers have gunshot wounds.
The North Atlantic Alliance condemned the attacks and called on “all parties to refrain from actions that further fuel tensions and engage in dialogue.”
The NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples announced that the military-political bloc is sending an Operational Reserve Force (ORF) for the Western Balkans to Kosovo.
Admiral Stuart B. Mansch, Commander of Allied Forces Naples, said that “the deployment of additional NATO forces in Kosovo is a measured measure to ensure that KFOR has the necessary security capabilities in accordance with our UN Security Council mandate.” .
