Five of them were imprisoned, one was shot by the fugitives themselves, because he allegedly wanted to surrender. Later, the media clarified that “law enforcement officers” detained the deserters in one of the cafes in the city of Bryanka (“LPR” territory). The fugitives were said to be drunk.

There are also reports that during the flight, deserters shot at the military of the so-called “Ministry of State Security” of the “LNR”.

On May 27 and 28, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published updated information about mass desertion in the ranks of the Russian army. According to him, on May 25, about 20 prisoners escaped in the Svatovoe region of the Lugansk region, which recently underwent accelerated training and came to reinforce one of the units of the Russian army. During the flight, they stole a KamAZ.

According to the Ukrainian military, in Lisichansk, Luhansk region, about 80 people from the new PMC Storm Z willingly leave the defensive positions. Note that this group also consists of people deprived of their freedom on the territory of Russia.

In the Bakhmut area, about 30 “Wagnerites” left, arbitrarily leaving their battle positions, stealing military equipment, the General Staff added.

Mass surrender

Last week, not only desertion, but also mass surrender was recorded in the Russian army. So, on May 24, 28 servicemen of a special assault detachment of the 110th brigade of the Russian Armed Forces surrendered to Ukrainian soldiers near Avdiivka. Among them were three officers, the most senior in rank being the captain.

A video message in which the invaders explained their decision by poor clothing, lack of weapons and ammunition, was published on his social network page by journalist Yuri Butusov.

“Squad Storm The 110th brigade was defeated on May 21 by the 59th motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Avdiivka area, all who survived the battle surrendered in an organized manner,” he said.

Military expert Aleksey Getman predicts that the number of deserters from the Russian army will increase and that these deserters will become armed gangs.

Also, according to the expert, the number of soldiers who voluntarily surrendered to capture the occupying forces doubled. If earlier there were about one and a half thousand invaders in a month, now there are about three thousand.

“The commanders of our units must make a report on the conditions in which a person was captured … The document has clear criteria: if he was wounded, if he was left without ammunition, was surrounded or surrender voluntarily, there are several more options … And now in the reports written by our commanders of the units that detained the prisoner of war, more than half of them surrendered voluntarily,” Hetman said.

At the same time, the conquerors hardly knew where they were going to surrender voluntarily.

“The Russians are not surrendering lightly, as people who have spoken to them say… They are asking to simplify or help them find some route so that it will be easier for them to surrender… And the most interesting- I wonder how many prisoners are doing. to those who want to surrender and say that staying in our captivity from the local point of view is better and more comfortable than what is happening with the Russian army,” the expert added.
