This was reported by the New York Times.
Pentagon speaker Lieutenant Colonel Garron Garn told the publication that about 200 military personnel – that’s one armored battalion – on Friday, May 26, began combined training at the training grounds in Grafenwöhr and Gohenfels in Germany.
These exercises include basic soldier training such as marksmanship and medical skills. The training program also includes platoon and company level drills, and eventually larger battalion-level drills that will oppose each other.
The remaining 200 Ukrainian troops have begun learning how to refuel and maintain tanks, Colonel Garn said.
Earlier it was reported that 30 Abrams tanks were brought to Germany from the USA specifically for training.
The training program is expected to last between 10 and 12 weeks. And by autumn, combat-ready tanks and crews will be able to reach the battlefields in Ukraine.
